Principles and process for developing participatory adaptation pathways in the primary industries

Adaptation pathways is an approach to identify, assess, and sequence climate change adaptation options over time, linking decisions critical signals triggers derived from scenarios of future conditions. However, conceptual differences in their development can hinder methodological advance create a disconnect between those applying approaches the wider community practitioners undertaking vulnerability, impacts, assessments. Here, we contribute close these gaps, advancing principles, processes that may be used guide trajectory for pathways, without having rely on data-rich or resource-intensive methods. To achieve this, concepts practices broad literature combined with our own experience developing primary industries facing impacts other, nonclimatic stressors. Each stage guided by goal tools facilitate discussions produce feasible pathways. We illustrate process case study Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, involving multiple data sources methods two catchments.
